REV Ocean: The World’s Largest Yacht Ever Built Nears Completion

The highly anticipated REV Ocean is moving closer to completion, and once delivered, it is expected to become the largest yacht ever built. Measuring an astonishing 194.9 meters (639 feet) in length, the vessel is unlike anything the yachting world has seen before, combining luxury, exploration, and ocean research in a completely different way than traditional superyachts.

Currently undergoing outfitting work at Damen Shiprepair Vlissingen in the Netherlands after being built by Norwegian shipbuilder Vard, REV Ocean is expected to be delivered in late 2026 following an extensive 15–18 month outfitting process.

A Milestone in Modern Yacht Design

Owned by Norwegian billionaire Kjell Inge Røkke, REV Ocean was built as far more than a traditional superyacht. While the vessel includes luxury amenities typically associated with the world’s largest private yachts, its main purpose is centered around marine research, ocean conservation, and scientific exploration.

Designed by renowned yacht designer Espen Øino, with interiors by H2 Yacht Design, REV Ocean reflects a growing trend toward purpose-driven yachting. The project aims to support scientific missions around the globe while also serving as a high-end expedition platform capable of operating in some of the most remote waters on Earth.

What Makes REV Ocean Different

At nearly 640 feet long, REV Ocean is larger than two football fields placed end to end. The vessel is designed to accommodate 36 guests and 54 crew members, while offering a range of amenities rarely seen on any yacht, including a tennis court, swimming pool, spa, multiple outdoor lounge areas, and a fleet of more than seven tenders.

But the most remarkable features lie beneath the surface. REV Ocean will carry advanced marine research equipment including scientific laboratories, diving facilities, multibeam echosounders, and AURELIA, the world’s deepest-diving three-person acrylic submersible. The onboard submarine is designed to allow researchers and guests to explore extreme ocean depths while supporting marine science initiatives around the world.

Built for Exploration and Global Reach

Performance and range are equally impressive. REV Ocean features a diesel-electric hybrid propulsion system combined with an advanced exhaust cleaning setup aimed at reducing environmental impact. With an estimated range of 21,120 nautical miles at cruising speed, the vessel is capable of traveling virtually anywhere on the planet without major refueling stops.

That long-range capability allows REV Ocean to function as both a luxury expedition yacht and a floating scientific research platform, giving researchers access to remote regions of the ocean rarely reached by conventional yachts.

The Largest Charter Yacht in the World

Once delivered, REV Ocean is also expected to become the largest charter yacht in the world, opening the project to select charter guests in addition to its scientific missions. The combination of unprecedented scale, luxury accommodations, exploration technology, and environmental focus has already made the yacht one of the most closely watched projects in modern yachting.

As outfitting work continues through 2026, anticipation surrounding REV Ocean continues to grow across both the superyacht and marine science communities. More than just the world’s largest yacht, REV Ocean represents a new direction for what large-scale yachting can become by blending luxury, technology, exploration, and ocean conservation into a single platform.

Instagram Summary

The world’s largest yacht is nearing completion and it’s more than just a luxury vessel. REV Ocean features scientific laboratories, a submarine, a tennis court, and enough range to circle the globe. At 639 feet long, it’s redefining what a modern superyacht can be.
